The GV Christian Guardians waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They slipped by Awaken Christian 48-47. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 13 more assists than your opponent, as GV Christian did.
Among those leading the charge was Deomani Loveland, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Nick Madsen was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 11 rebounds and six assists.
Despite the loss, Awaken Christian still got an impressive performance from Jaylen Jordan, who scored 23 points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Kepler, who scored six points along with two steals.
GV Christian pushed their record up to 6-9 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Awaken Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.
GV Christian will head out on the road to square off against Laughlin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Laughlin is ranked 96th, while GV Christian is ranked 88th). As for Awaken Christian, they will be playing at home against American Heritage Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jacob Rodrigues and Jordan.
