The Southmoreland Scotties pushed their score all the way to 73 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 85-73 to Belle Vernon. Southmoreland has not had much luck with the Leopards recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Southmoreland saw an underclassman step up: Noah Felentzer scored 30 points. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Richter, who scored 20 points.
Southmoreland's loss dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Belle Vernon, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southmoreland will face off against the Red Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Uniontown presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Scotties in Pennsylvania (the Red Raiders are ranked 21st, while the Scotties are ranked 174th). As for Belle Vernon, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Indians at 1:30 p.m. on January 27th. North Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully the Leopards likes a good challenge.
