The Wolfe County Wolves are taking a road trip to challenge the Lewis County Lions at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Wolfe County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Wolfe County came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of IC Catholic Prep by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Chloy Creech made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
While Lewis County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against IC Catholic Prep by a score of 8-4 on Tuesday.
Jerra Lucas made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Lucas was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kaylen Case was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Switzer, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Lewis County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as IC Catholic Prep only posted a batting average of .323.
Lewis County's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Wolfe County, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 6-3.
Lewis County's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Wolfe County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Lewis County, though, as they've been averaging only 2.6 strikeouts. Will Wolfe County keep running through batters, or will the Lions buck the trend?
Wolfe County came up short against Lewis County in their previous meeting back in June of 2021, falling 10-6. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
