The Huntingtown Hurricanes won the last time they faced the Thomas Stone Cougars, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Huntingtown came out on top against Thomas Stone by a score of 27-15. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Huntingtown.
Huntingtown found their leader in underclassman Eva Powell, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds. Powell has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played.
Thomas Stone's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Makaiya Tucker, who scored eight points, and Destini Shorts who scored no points along with six blocks. Shorts hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Thomas Stone struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Huntingtown pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Huntingtown's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Thomas Stone, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.
Huntingtown won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Calvert at 6:30 p.m. on January 18th. Calvert will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Huntingtown is ranked 114th). As for Thomas Stone, they will head out on the road to challenge Chopticon at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
