Von Steuben lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Payton College Prep, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Panthers blew past the Grizzlies 10-4 on Monday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Axel Rivera made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Von Steuben is 5-1 when Rivera posts two or more runs, but 3-6-2 otherwise.
In other pitching news, Wade Miley looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Von Steuben's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 4-1 (and 4-6-2 when he doesn't).
Back at the plate, George Allen was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayin Timble, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Von Steuben's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-7-2. As for Payton College Prep, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.
