Even though the Utica Academy of Science Atoms scored an imposing 55 points on Monday, the Bishop Grimes Cobras still came out on top. Bishop Grimes managed a 61-55 victory over Utica Academy of Science. Given Bishop Grimes' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Utica Academy of Science is ranked 465th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Atoms players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Doneilious King j.r, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Akol Machteng, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Utica Academy of Science struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Bishop Grimes' victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Utica Academy of Science, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-10.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Syracuse Academy of Science the next time they take the court. Bishop Grimes will host Syracuse Academy of Science at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, while Utica Academy of Science will host them at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
