Mt. Blue will challenge Dirigo at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Blue is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Oxford Hills hit Mt. Blue with a four-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars lost 11-1 to the Vikings. The Cougars have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Dirigo came out on top against Spruce Mountain on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run first inning. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand the Phoenix a 17-0 shutout. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Phoenix recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Clark Averill was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trevor Crosby, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Waugh, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Dirigo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Mt. Blue's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Dirigo, their record is now 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mt. Blue has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dirigo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
