Madi Janicek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Weiser saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellie Shirts, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Payette had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with an 11-6 win over the Wolverines. Payette's victory was all the more impressive since the Wolverines were averaging only 3.82 runs allowed on the season.
Payette also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Anna Moreno gave up only one earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits.
At the plate, Payette got a massive performance out of Haylo Collingwood, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave Collingwood a new career-high. Victoria Walker was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Payette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Payette's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Weiser, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-5.
Payette's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Weiser has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Payette, though, as they've been averaging only 4.2 strikeouts. Will Weiser keep running through batters, or will the Pirates buck the trend?
Weiser couldn't quite get it done against Payette in their previous meeting on Monday as they fell 11-6. Will the Wolverines have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
