Basketball Recap: Adrianna Stannard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northwest Christian over Gilbert Christian

Northwest Christian lost against Gilbert Christian on January 10th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Northwest Christian Crusaders fell to the Gilbert Christian Knights 49-43.

Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Adrianna Stannard, who posted 18 points and three steals. Those 18 points gave Stannard a new career-high. Kylie Seifried was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Northwest Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Kaila Aston continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Gilbert Christian, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 14 boards. Aston continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillie Duitsman, who scored six points and 13 rebounds.

Northwest Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Gilbert Christian, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwest Christian will square off against Bourgade Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Christian is facing Bourgade Catholic at the right time seeing as Bourgade Catholic is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Gilbert Christian, they will face off against San Tan Foothills at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
