Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Dodson's Fifth in Last Six Outings

Dodson made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Arcadia, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Dodson's pitcher stepped up to hand Arcadia a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by ten runs or more this season.

Courtney Mckiddy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had over her last six contests. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-1. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Dodson got a massive performance out of Kaylyn Nugent, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. What's more, Nugent posted two runs, the most she's had over her last seven games. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Goss, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Dodson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .944. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Dodson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. Arcadia is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5-1.

Looking ahead, Dodson will welcome Harrisonburg at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Arcadia, they will venture away from home to face off against Saline at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
