Canyon View is a perfect 10-0 against Verrado since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Jaguars are taking a road trip to take on the Vipers at 6:00 p.m. Canyon View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
Verrado will be up against a hot Canyon View squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Jaguars blew past Desert Edge 11-1 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won 16 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Audrie Castaneda spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sedona Hernandez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Gracie Harkins was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Hernandez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Canyon View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Verrado unfortunately witnessed the end of their 17-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 4-1 to Canyon View. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Vipers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Verrado saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faith Grabau, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 20-4 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Verrado, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 17-2.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canyon View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .447. However, it's not like Verrado struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Canyon View was able to grind out a solid victory over Verrado in their previous matchup on Tuesday, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
