The Gunnison Cowboys will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against The Vanguard School Coursers at 6:00 p.m. on December 20th. Gunnison will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 284th, while The Vanguard School is ranked 30th).
Last Saturday, Gunnison was beaten by Centauri 74-30. Gunnison has not had much luck with Centauri recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, The Vanguard School put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Ellicott at home to the tune of 84-32. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-16.
The Vanguard School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Morris led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Morris scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Mason Hoover, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Gunnison's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for The Vanguard School, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Gunnison was taken down by The Vanguard School 73-46 in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can Gunnison avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
