The Scarborough Red Storm will challenge the Portland Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Scarborough has 19 straight victories, Portland has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Portland's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Scarborough hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Red Storm's pitcher stepped up to hand Windham a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Red Storm, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Scarborough got a great performance from Nate Masters as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Masters has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Finn Coburn and Matthew Fallona did most of the damage at the plate: Coburn went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Fallona got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Coburn a new career-high. Kayson Cyr was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Portland fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Deering on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 5-4. On the bright side, the four- run performance marked the Bulldogs' highest-scoring game to date.
Portland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Milliken, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Milliken's first of the season.
Scarborough pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Portland, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Portland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Scarborough has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. It's a different story for Portland, though, as they've only averaged .273. Will they be able to contain Scarborough's hitters?
Everything went Scarborough's way against Portland when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Scarborough made off with a 12-0 win. Do the Red Storm have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
