The Woodstock Academy Centaurs will face off against the Montville Wolves at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Tuesday, Woodstock Academy made easy work of Lyman Memorial and carried off a 22-8 victory. The Centaurs have beaten the Bulldogs the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Kaya Nichols made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Nichols was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellary Sampson, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Campbell Favreau was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Woodstock Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .596. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lyman Memorial only posted an OBP of .355.
Meanwhile, while Montville put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Windham. The Wolves blew past the Whippets 18-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolves.
Like Woodstock Academy, Montville also got a great game from a two-way player: Natalie Lutyen. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Lutyen was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Abby Daniewicz was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alanna Noonan, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.
Woodstock Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Montville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 10-7. Will the Centaurs repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
