The Northeast Jones Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Mendenhall at home and fell 57-30. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Northeast Jones has scored all season.
Mendenhall got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jay Rankin out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists. The game was Rankin's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayton James, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Northeast Jones has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Mendenhall, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northeast Jones will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Laurel at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mendenhall will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Quitman at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
