Woodlawn is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of North Mecklenburg. While the Trailblazers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vikings 25-14 in the first set.
Woodlawn started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 14-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-9.
Despite their defeat, Woodlawn saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Matt Reed, who had 15 kills, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Dani Santos-Mirza, who had eight kills.
Meanwhile, South Iredell faced West Forsyth in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Vikings lost 3-0 to the Titans. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.
South Iredell took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-18, 25-19.
Woodlawn's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for South Iredell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Woodlawn might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from South Iredell when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Trailblazers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
