The Mt. Carmel Sundevils scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They secured a 104-100 W over Cathedral Catholic. Winning may never get old, but Mt. Carmel sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Mt. Carmel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gianni Bernabe led the charge by scoring 37 points. Those 37 points set a new season-high mark for him. Raymond Hourani was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 20 rebounds.
Cathedral Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ty Ingram, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds. The matchup was Ingram's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Patrick O'brien, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 assists.
Mt. Carmel pushed their record up to 4-5 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.3 points per game. As for Cathedral Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Mt. Carmel will head out on the road to face off against Mission Bay at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mission Bay presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mt. Carmel in California (Mission Bay is ranked 107th, while Mt. Carmel is ranked 525th). Cathedral Catholic will be home for the holidays to greet La Jolla Country Day at 5:00 p.m. on December 22nd.
