Softball Recap: Deltona Takes a Loss

Deltona dropped their record down to 12-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Spruce Creek Hawks, falling 9-2. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Tessa Guenette was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Amayah Jones made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Caruso, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

As for Spruce Creek, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

On Spruce Creek's side, Aubrey Yeary spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Mackenzie Colby was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Keylee Gerhardt also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deltona will challenge Lake Mary at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spruce Creek, they will take on Eau Gallie at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
