New Kent has won three straight games at home, while Poquoson has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Trojans will host the Islanders at 4:30 p.m. New Kent is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
New Kent came into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Warhill by a score of 5-3 on Friday.
Cassidy Branch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run. Kenley Rowe was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Poquoson made easy work of Bruton on Friday and carried off a 21-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Islanders in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won nine in a row.
Natalie Klochak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Alyssa Laney was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Mason, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Poquoson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bruton only posted an OBP of .241.
New Kent's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Poquoson, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Kent has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Poquoson struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Kent took their win against Poquoson in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Islanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
