The Dunedin Falcons will take on the Pinellas Park Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dunedin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
While Dunedin didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Hollins on Tuesday.
Abby McLemore was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
McLemore wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maelaea Johnson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Jillian Ellison was another, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Dunedin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hollins only posted a batting average of .250.
Meanwhile, Pinellas Park hadn't done well against Seminole recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Pinellas Park sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Seminole. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since March 21, 2024.
Like Dunedin, Pinellas Park also got a great game from a two-way player: Ayanah Wilson. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danielle Overman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Sohpie Sokolowski, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Dunedin's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pinellas Park, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dunedin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Pinellas Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
