The Platte Canyon Huskies were the 39-38 winner over the Clear Creek Golddiggers when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Platte Canyon took a 50-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clear Creek. Platte Canyon has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Platte Canyon still got an impressive performance from Alexander Thoms, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Thoms scored a full 36.4% of Platte Canyon's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack McMahen, who scored 9 points along with 8 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Platte Canyon were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clear Creek only pulled down four.
Leading Clear Creek to victory were Collin Hendrickson and Tyler O'Brien. Hendrickson scored 22 points along with 7 rebounds, while O'Brien scored 19 points along with 7 steals. The contest was O'Brien's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zephyr Schuessler, who scored 6 points along with 3 steals.
Platte Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Clear Creek, their win bumped their record up to 1-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Platte Canyon will take on Conifer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clear Creek, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Arrupe Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Arrupe Jesuit focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
