Gregori has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Modesto Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Wednesday, Gregori lost to the Bulldogs at home by a decisive 63-45 margin. Gregori was down 50-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Gregori saw an underclassman step up: Jayson Powers scored 19 points along with two steals and two blocks. Marcus Sims was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Modesto's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. Their rough 78-57 defeat to Downey might stick with them for a while. Modesto has not had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Gregori dropped their record down to 12-13 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Modesto, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 16 of their last 17 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Gregori against the Panthers in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 82-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gregori since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
