Juarez is 0-3 against Morgan Park Academy since December of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The two teams will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m. Both have allowed few points on average, (Juarez: 23.9, Morgan Park Academy: 20.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
Last Wednesday, Juarez ended up a good deal behind Victoria Soto and lost 46-30. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wolves 11-4 in the first quarter.
Despite the loss, Juarez had strong showings from Emily Flores, who posted eight points, and Martha Patino, who put up seven points. Another player making a difference was Rosa Patino, who had five points.
Meanwhile, Morgan Park Academy put another one in the bag two weeks ago to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 67-8 win over Christian Heritage Academy. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.
Morgan Park Academy found their leader in sophomore Tiara Williams, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 12 steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Morgan Park Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecelia Drown, who posted nine points and four steals.
Morgan Park Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.
Morgan Park Academy pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Juarez, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.
Juarez was taken down by Morgan Park Academy 67-16 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Juarez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
