1A Conference 3 recap October 8, 2013
Bessemer City fell to Forestview 66-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cedric Mackey was a bright spot for the Yellowjackets, as he ran for 84 yards in the loss.
Bessemer City made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,284 from 11,523. The improvement was the result of a 66-7 victory over Larry Boone's team last week.
Mason Fenner was the best wideout in 1A Conference 3 this week as Thomas Jefferson Academy defeated Highland Tech. Fenner tallied 2 receptions for 89 yards. Efrim Borders helped Thomas Jefferson Academy's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 68 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Gryphons' Mason Martin and Borders have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Martin has thrown for 814 yards this season, while Borders has 21 catches for 377 yards. Mackey from the Yellowjackets leads the league in rushing with 645 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Community School of Davidson takes on Bessemer City. Community School of Davidson is in third place, while the Yellowjackets are in second place.
