Basketball Recap: North East Carolina Prep Takes a Loss

North East Carolina Prep played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Martin County Gators, falling 60-36. The defeat continues a trend for the Husky in their matchups with the Gators: they've now lost five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why North East Carolina Prep lost, don't look at Chadwick Barnes. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 22 points and 15 boards. Barnes is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Cicere Lancaster was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

Even though they lost, North East Carolina Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Jayden Moore was nothing short of spectacular for Martin County: he went 8 of 14 on his way to 18 points in addition to eight assists and three steals. The dominant performance gave Moore a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kel'Javious Moore, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards.

North East Carolina Prep's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Martin County, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Coming up, North East Carolina Prep will welcome Gates County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North East Carolina Prep is facing Gates County at the right time seeing as Gates County is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Martin County, they will take on Washington County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Washington County is on a six-game streak of home wins, Martin County a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
