The Elkhorn Valley Falcons will take on the Crofton Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Elkhorn Valley faced Plainview in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Elkhorn Valley claimed a resounding 36-8 victory over Plainview on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 22-0.
Elkhorn Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevis Halsey, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also caught a touchdown. Elkhorn Valley also got a significant boost from Mavrick Hagemann, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 139 yards.
Meanwhile, Crofton put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bridgeport 72-34 at home. Given Crofton's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Bridgeport is ranked 26th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wyatt Tramp was a one-man wrecking crew for Crofton as he rushed for 216 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Will Steffen was another major influence, as he rushed for 84 yards and ran in a TD.
The win makes it two in a row for Elkhorn Valley and bumps their season record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.0 points per game. As for Crofton, their win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Elkhorn Valley and Crofton haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Elkhorn Valley commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 4.7 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Crofton struggles in that department as they've been even better at 7.1 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
