The Big Lake Hornets waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Becker 80-77. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sawyer Brown, who scored 20 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyan Blomquist, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Big Lake's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.7 points per game. As for Becker, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Big Lake will challenge Chisago Lakes Area at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Chisago Lakes Area's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. Becker on the road again on Tuesday and play against Monticello at 6:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Monticello is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
