Softball Recap: Holmes Drops Highest Score of Season Against Northeastern

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holmes). They never let the Northeastern Eagles get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Aces in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won eight in a row.

Mia Hoffer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Sara Logan Cobb and Harper Evans did most of the damage at the plate: Cobb got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs, while Evans went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave Evans a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Jordan Ward, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Holmes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Holmes' victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Northeastern, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holmes will venture away from home to take on Perquimans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Northeastern, they will head out on the road to face off against Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northeastern has given up an average of 17.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
