The Central Academy Cougars will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the North Stanly Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Academy is hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Central Academy pushed their score all the way to 64 two weeks ago, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 74-64 to Montgomery Central. Central Academy has struggled against Montgomery Central recently, as their contest two weeks ago was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Michael Hoff, who scored 21 points along with three steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Drew Butler, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, North Stanly's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were dealt a 89-55 defeat at the hands of Forest Hills. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Central Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for North Stanly, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2.
Central Academy was taken down by North Stanly 71-40 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Central Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
