It was a good run, but the Agua Dulce Longhorns unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost to Freer at home by a decisive 41-26 margin. Agua Dulce found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 18 to 7 on offense.
Agua Dulce's loss came despite strong showings from Alyssa Vinton and Kaylee Deaver. Vinton scored six points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Deaver scored four points along with five rebounds and two steals. Vinton hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games.
Freer found their leader in underclassman Ashlyn Butler, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Butler has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jayda Washington, who scored five points along with 13 rebounds and four steals.
Agua Dulce's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-7. As for Freer, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing La Villa the next time they take the court. Freer will host La Villa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Agua Dulce will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
