Southaven suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after topping Grenada. The Chargers had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 27.
South Panola extended the longest winning streak in 6A Region 1 this week by beating Tupelo, 41-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Olive Branch's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Samuel Craft threw for 177 and one touchdown and Jamil Collins had 98 yards receiving. On the ground Dontavis Bruce chipped in 68 yards. Malik Mayweather helped Olive Branch's passing attack out by catching two balls for 80 yards.
On the ground, DeSoto Central's Nathan Vanderburg has rushed for 742 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is DeAndrea Harris. The South Panola star has 36 catches for 485 yards.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Conquistadors and the Chargers face off next week. Craft has thrown for 1034 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Genard Avery has plagued opposing QBs to the tune of five sacks.
A big matchup in 6A Region 1 this week will be when South Panola takes on Southaven. As it stands, Lance Pogue's team is in third, while Ed Rich's team is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Grenada and Olive Branch face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Chargers comes in having scored 190 this season, while Scott Samsel's team has scored 279. Grenada scored 22 points last week as it lost to the Chargers.
The Conquistadors took down Horn Lake 49-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Alfred Dickens threw for 98 yards and one touchdown, ran for 23 yards and caught two passes for 75 yards in the win.
