The Lakewood Lancers came into Wednesday's match having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Zanesville on Wednesday and snuck past 63-60. Lakewood's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Zanesville's loss came despite strong showings from Jersey Draughn and Lakeyah Butcher. Draughn scored 22 points, while Butcher scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Draughn scored 15 or more points. Kamy Morgan was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two blocks.
Even though they lost, Zanesville were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Lakewood's win ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-16. As for Zanesville, they dropped their record down to 3-18 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakewood won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Newark Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. Newark Catholic will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something Lakewood surely won't give up without a fight. As for Zanesville, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Licking Heights at 12:45 p.m. on February 10th. Hopefully Zanesville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday.
