The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Cherokee Christian takes on Hearts Academy in the first playoff game of the year. Cherokee Christian dropped a decent lead last game -- we'll see if that pushes the squad to a win or puts them in a funk.
Cherokee Christian put forth a good scoring effort two games ago and even improved upon it last game, but that didn't prove quite enough. It had a chance to win last week but let Unity Christian get away with a 54 - 48 victory. Cherokee Christian was up eight at the end of the third quarter but couldn't hold onto the lead.
Meanwhile, Holy Ground Baptist Academy delivered Hearts Academy a harsh 49 - 8 defeat last week. The blowout was painful but not necessarily a surprise as Holy Ground Baptist Academy is ranked 1st in the state, ten places higher than Hearts Academy.
After their losses, Hearts Academy dropped to 3-5 and Cherokee Christian dropped to 7-3. Both Cherokee Christian and Hearts Academy have been struggling on the defensive side of the ball (the former allowing an average of 28 points per game, the latter an average of 37 points per game). We'll find out which offense can take advantage of this fact when the two teams meet this week.
