Baseball Recap: Western Branch Wins Going Away Against Deep Creek

Western Branch had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 39-run drubbing they dealt Deep Creek on Thursday. Western Branch was the clear victor by a 41-2 margin over Deep Creek. That looming 41-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bruins yet this season.

Ian Taylor and Zach Kincaid were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Taylor pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kincaid struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. What's more, he gave up only four walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Taylor scored two runs while going 1-for-4, while Kincaid scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave Kincaid a new career-high.

In other batting news, Logan Adams was a standout: he went 4-for-7 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Markel Smith, who scored five runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6.

Western Branch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 29 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Western Branch's record is now 4-0. As for Deep Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Branch will square off against Walsingham Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Deep Creek, they will face off against Atlantic Shores Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Atlantic Shores Christian will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Deep Creek surely won't give up without a fight.
