The Marathon Dolphins will venture away from home to challenge the Miami Country Day Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Marathon has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Marathon managed to slip by Mater Bay Academy the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Marathon lost 12-5 to Mater Bay Academy on Friday. It was the first time this season that the Dolphins let down their fans at home.
Elena Eubank made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Daniuska Perdomo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Miami Country Day put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Ransom Everglades with a sharp 16-1 victory. Fans of the Spartans have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Collins Ames spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gracey Mccoy, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sharleah Lapaix, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Miami Country Day always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ransom Everglades only posted an OBP of .133.
This is the second loss in a row for Marathon and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Miami Country Day, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Miami Country Day's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marathon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .457. It's a different story for Miami Country Day, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Marathon's hitters?
Marathon might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Miami Country Day when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Marathon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
