Hume-Fogg has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet Royals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Hume-Fogg, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Hume-Fogg beat Lawson 49-40.
Hume-Fogg can attribute much of their success to Michael Nwoye, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Alonzo Rhodes, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Rhodes is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Miles Rucker, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet's 19-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 65-64 to Glencliff. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game two weeks ago (63), Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet still had to take the loss.
Hume-Fogg's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Lawson, Glencliff, and Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet. As for Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Hume-Fogg came out on top in a nail-biter against Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet in their previous matchup on January 9th, sneaking past 57-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hume-Fogg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
