The Greenport Porters will square off against the Smithtown Christian Knights at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
Greenport fell victim to Amityville Memorial and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 11-0. That's two games in a row now that the Porters have lost by exactly 11 runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Smithtown Christian). They put the hurt on Southold with a sharp 15-1 victory on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Knights, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Erick Aristy was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Quincy Gibbs and Isaiah Gibbs did most of the damage at the plate: Quincy went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Isaiah got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Quincy is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Ruggiero, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Smithtown Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Smithtown Christian's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Greenport, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Greenport took their win against Smithtown Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2017 by a conclusive 9-3 score. Will the Porters repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
