Montello extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-9. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Green Lake/Princeton Tigersharks. If the Hilltoppers were looking for revenge after losing 12-5 to the Tigersharks when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Geneva Hunter made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Rylan Harder, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Green Lake/Princeton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.
On Green Lake/Princeton's side, Winnie Culver made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off one hit. Culver was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Peyton Zamzow was excellent, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Kendra Richter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Montello has already played their next contest, a 10-6 loss against Princeton/Green Lake on the 23rd. As for Green Lake/Princeton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Berlin at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.56 runs per game on average), something the Tigersharks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
