Basketball Recap: Mar Vista Takes a Loss

Mar Vista lost against Southwest SD back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Mar Vista Mariners were beaten by the Southwest SD Raiders 89-50. While losing is never fun, the Mariners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 891st, while the Raiders are ranked 408th).

Mar Vista's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Omar Krenbeh, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. Krenbeh is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonan Ceballos, who went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Leading Southwest SD to victory were Khalid Deiranieh and River Diaz. Deiranieh posted 23 points, while Diaz earned 21 points. The dominant performance gave Diaz a new career-high in points. Noah Soltero was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Mar Vista's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-10. As for Southwest SD, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season.

Mar Vista has already played their next game, an 84-61 loss against Bonita Vista on the 27th. As for Southwest SD, they will be playing at home against San Ysidro at 6:30 p.m. on January 29th. Southwest SD is facing San Ysidro at the right time seeing as San Ysidro is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
