Cyprus is a perfect 10-0 against Hunter since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Cyprus will welcome Hunter at 3:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Cyprus is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Lone Peak with a sharp 14-4 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won five matches by nine runs or more so far this season.
Calee Sharp was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Gober, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hunter got the win against Kearns on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-3. The victory continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won nine in a row.
LEILA AIONO was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, LOIANA IONGI and ALEXA OLSEN did most of the damage at the plate: IONGI went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while OLSEN scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That triple was IONGI's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of KENYA LAPUAHO, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Hunter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Hunter pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11.67 hits in those games compared to only four in the others. As for Cyprus, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.
Cyprus took their win against Hunter in their previous matchup on March 11th by a conclusive 12-1. Will Cyprus repeat their success, or does Hunter has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
