While it was all tied up 40-40 at halftime, the St. Thomas Catholic Eagles were not quite the Antonian Prep Apaches's equal in the second half on Friday. St. Thomas Catholic took a 74-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Apaches. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), St. Thomas Catholic still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, St. Thomas Catholic had strong showings from Aron Valentine, who shot 5-for-9 from long range and dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds, and Evan Levy, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Valentine also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Kimble, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
St. Thomas Catholic has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season. As for Antonian Prep, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 22-6.
St. Thomas Catholic will head out on the road to face off against the Buttons at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Central Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 203 points over their last three matches. As for Antonian Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Crusaders at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Concordia Lutheran is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
