Calvary Christian Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their ninth straight defeat. They took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Greenwood Mennonite. Calvary Christian Academy found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 15 to 7 on offense.
Despite the loss, Calvary Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from JR Gillespie (HS), who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Gillespie (HS) continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Wyatt (HS), who scored nine points.
Greenwood Mennonite's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carter Long, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Long is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Blake Mast was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Calvary Christian Academy has fallen quite a ways from their 13-6 record last season and are now at 1-13. As for Greenwood Mennonite, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Fairwinds Christian the next time they take the court. Calvary Christian Academy will head out to face the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Flames will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
