Even though the Basalt Longhorns have not done well against the Aspen Skiers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Basalt was the clear victor by a 59-37 margin over Aspen. The victory was all the more spectacular given Basalt's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Aspen is ranked 46th).
Among those leading the charge was Wyatt Loomis, who scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Elias Schendler was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Aspen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tommy Franceschi, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Balko, who scored five points.
Basalt's victory bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Aspen, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.
Basalt will look to defend their home court on Friday against Montrose at 8:00 p.m. Montrose is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Aspen won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Conifer at 8:00 p.m. on December 7th. Allowing an average of 68.3 points per game, Conifer has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this game.
