Baseball Recap: Angel Flores Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Riverside

Ysleta won the last time they faced Riverside and things went their way on Friday too. Ysleta's pitcher stepped up to hand Riverside a 10-0 shutout. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Evan Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only three hits, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Ysleta got a massive performance out of Angel Flores, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Flores has become a key player for Ysleta: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 5-12 otherwise. Alexander Rubio also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Ysleta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Ysleta's win bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Riverside, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-7-1 record.

Coincidentally, Ysleta and Riverside will both be playing Austin the next time they take the field. Ysleta will head out to face Austin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Riverside will host them at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
