Two dominant guards in Joshua James and Austin Beeson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pomona Panthers will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Green Mountain Rams at 7:30 p.m. Pomona will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 278th, while Green Mountain is ranked 116th).
Last Wednesday, things could have been worse for Pomona, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-41 loss to Standley Lake.
Green Mountain posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 76-42 victory over Littleton at home. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, as Green Mountain did.
Green Mountain had a senior duo take command as Beeson went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 2 assists and Blake Weslin dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Beeson has scored all season. Ameer Dowdell was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Pomona's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Green Mountain, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Pomona was taken down by Green Mountain 85-36 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Pomona, Benson Wachter (who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
