As a matter of fact, Cottonwood put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They put the hurt on Summit Academy with a sharp 14-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
The team relied heavily on Breeya Busey, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Juliet Lewis also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Cottonwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Tooele earned a 16-11 win over Murray on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Buffaloes.
Tooele let Dakota-Sky Gallaher and Ashton Shields run wild. Gallaher got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Shields went 2-for-5 with one home run and six RBI. Those four RBI gave Gallaher a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paizlee Wall, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Tooele's record is now 4-7. As for Cottonwood, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3.
Tooele's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cottonwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Tooele, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Cottonwood's hitters?
Cottonwood suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Tooele when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Cottonwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
