Given Walkertown's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while McMichael is ranked 388th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walkertown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camereon Cartlidge, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Cartlidge scored 15 or more points. Jaylen Wilkerson was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Despite the loss, McMichael saw an underclassman step up: Brayden Dalton scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Cooper Kirkpatrick, who scored 12 points.
Walkertown has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for McMichael, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-16.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walkertown will take on Morehead at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
