The Basic Wolves will challenge the Faith Lutheran Crusaders at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Basic's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Faith Lutheran has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Basic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Centennial, who was ranked sixth at the time (Basic was ranked first). The Wolves put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 8-1 win on Monday. Considering the Wolves have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Andruw Giles made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Noah Sebastian tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Lyndon Lee was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run. Tate Southisene was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Faith Lutheran beat Bishop Alemany 6-3 on Tuesday.
Tyler Lipka looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kade Gerboc-Chun, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last eight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rouselle Shepard, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Basic is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Faith Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 16-12.
Basic came out on top in a nail-biter against Faith Lutheran in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
