The Rochester Academy Racers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 70-60 to University Prep. While losing is never fun, Rochester Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 591st, while University Prep is ranked 167th).
University Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin White led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The match was White's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alex Webb, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Rochester Academy has fallen quite a ways from their 8-3 record last season and are now at 2-7. As for University Prep, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Rochester Academy will be playing at home against University Prep Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. University Prep's road trip will continue as they head out to face Green Tech at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. Green Tech is on a four-game streak of home wins, University Prep a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
