The Whale Branch Warriors pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Beaufort by a score of 61-58. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (56), Whale Branch still had to take the loss.
Whale Branch lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Greggory Gilbert, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Gilbert also pulled down eight+ rebounds for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Bradford Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds.
It was another big night for Samari Bonds, who scored 30 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds for Beaufort. Bonds set a new season high mark in steals with eight. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Newton, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Whale Branch's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Beaufort, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.
Whale Branch will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Battery Creek at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Battery Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday. Beaufort won't have much time to rest: their next game is against May River at 6:00 p.m. on December 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (May River is ranked 109th, while Beaufort is ranked 106th).
